This Elder Abuse Awareness Month, learn how to protect yourself and loved ones from scams.

June is Elder Abuse Awareness month. In recognition, we will be sharing resources to recognize scams targeting older people and how to protect yourself.  The USC Center for Elder Justice created a helpful Scam Prevention Checklist, full of information to help you protect yourself and your loved ones. Here are a few important things to remember and check out the full list for more helpful information: 

1. We can all play a role in elder scam prevention! Talk to family and friends about scam prevention.  Ask if they have received any suspicious calls or requests to share sensitive information.

2. If you are contacted about winning a lottery or contest that you did not enter, (or don’t remember entering) it is likely a scam! 

3. When no longer needed, shred old bills, junk mail or anything with identifying information.
